AE Shift 1/2/3 for markers keep resetting

I'm aware that the latest AE update made it so you have to uncheck a box under preferences to use Shift 1/2/3 for markers. Even if I uncheck it, it resets itself and checks the box again when I restart AE.

How do I prevent it from resetting every time?

That must be annoying. Sorry about that.

Are you on macOS or Windows? Also, how do you launch After Effects - by double-clicking a file or clicking its icon?
