AE speed

My AE playback speed is just so incredibly slow, even cached and quater quality I stuggle to get real time playback, even with basic scenes. I feel like Im doing something wrong, but I don't know how best to diagnose.

Currently on 22.4. Version 18.2.1 was more stable but dynamic link wont connect to AME so I can't even roll back because I can't solve that issue. Also experiencing around 5 crashes per day which is just normalized now.

Specs
Processor AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core Processor, 3493 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)
ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
84 GB of ram allocated to AE

400 GB Disk Cache

- Disk cashe and memory is cleared multiple times per day
- Only using 8 bpc color depth
- Mercury GPU Acceleration on
- Fast preview on
- Multiframe rendering enabled (10% reserved)

Honestly Im pretty much at my limit with AE, I love the layered timeline editing and 3rd party scripts and plugins, but when I can barely play a video in real time, im activily looking at other options and I know many people who are saying the same.

Have you actually tried conventional RAM previews? Turned GPU acceleration and MFR off? Fiddled with your graphics drivers? Reigned in cache settings? I mean those 400 GB are just insane... That aside it comes down to the same boring and unsatisfying answer: The solution is somewhere in this bizarre triangle of configuration vs. hardware vs. settings, but unfortunately you really have to spend time and sit down to figure things out. There's no standard solution here.
