  • Issue - Since the introduction of Video Thumbnails for Essential Graphics, I have been unable to create a Poster Frame using a neat trick. You used to be able to place your custom thumbnail one frame outside the composition to create a nice looking thumbnail without it being visible when placing in Premiere Pro. But since the recent update, I'm getting a black thumbnail in Premiere Pro, which is also the case when you export the Mogrt file as a zip file. The weird thing is that the Essential Graphic panel still shows the thumbnail, but when I click export I get a black frame.
  • Adobe After Effects version number After Effects 24.3
  • Operating system Windows 11 22H2 and Mac OS 14.4.1
  • Steps to reproduce - Place your thumbnail one frame outside the composition. Place the play head at -00:00:00:01 and set the Poster frame for your Essential Graphic
  • Expected result - When exporting, I should render the chosen frame instead of a black screen
  • Actual result -  a black thumbnail

Hi @JorianFX,

That's a neat trick, but unfortunately it's not a supported workflow so it is not a bug.

I recommend remaining with 23x to keep your workflow the same, or use the unzip replace thumbnail rezip method trick (also not a supported workflow). If you don't mind, I also recommend making an idea post so that we can track popularity of custom thumbnails and get info on how the community feels it should work.

Cheers,

Theresa
