Hi there, hoping someone can help me with this.
Whenever I try to open After Effects, I am prompted with the following two pop-ups, before the application crashes.
First: After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <19216> <APIP> <5> fae66f06-7b5a-4b69-95eb-719e6fe49b6e
Second: After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. For After Effects Help and Support, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_ae_support. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2). ( 0 :: 42 )
I have tried updating to the latest version, back-dating to an earlier version, and a fresh re-install of After Effects, none have worked. I have also updated my graphics card drivers.
System specs:
After Effects version 23.5
Windows 10
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: Nvidia Gefore RTX 3080 Ti
Ram: 32GB
3 Hard Drives - 1TB, 6TB, 2TB (6TB one used for media cache & has 4.5TB free space)
The logs folder for After Effects 23.5 is empty too.
If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this it would be greatly appreciated! Also let me know if more information is required about the system / pop-ups etc. I would also put my AE preferences here, but I cannot open the menu as AE crashes before I can.
Thanks in advance!
A solution has been found!
With the help of a member of Technical Support, we were able to find a solution to the problem. These were the following steps taken for the crashes to stop:
During the crash pop-ups, one of them asks if you want to save the project before After Effects closes - say yes, and just save the empty file on your desktop.
Next, instead of launching After Effects from Creative Cloud or the Start Menu, launch it by double-clicking the empty .aep file you just created.

Blends37091785mj9s, do you mind sharing your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version), version of After Effects and a screenshot of the error?
Here's to help.
Thanks,
