Not sure what's happened, but every time I import any video file, After Effects crashes. Noteably MP4's. Not sure what I did wrong to cause this, can I please get help?

Can you play it by VLC media player? This would be another solution. You load and convert it to something else by VLC player and then try to import it to After Effects.

Hi Inferno12,

Sorry for your issue.

Do you get any crash report when it crashes? What's the exact version of After Effects you're using? Also, does it happens while importing a particular MP4 or any MP4 that you try to import?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi, so sorry for the late reply!

1) Nope. It just crashes immediately with no report.

2) I'm using After Effects 18.0.1

3) Any mp4. Its strange, as anything else works completely fine.

Thanks for sharing the details. The following troubleshooting is the resolution for a different issue related to MP4 import. I think it's worth a try:

  1. Go to After Effects Preferences > Import and uncheck Enable hardware accelerated decoding.
  2. Go to After Effects Preferences > Media & Disk Cache and click on Empty Disk Cache and Clean Database & Disk Cache.
  3. Restart After Effects and import the MP4.

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hello,

I have the same problem but the manoeuvre that you told us to do doesn't work for me. This is very frustrating and I just got a new computer to work on after effects so can anyone come up with a solution please?

Thanks
