after effects no longer updates in premiere

When I change an AE file that I've got embedded in Premiere in AE, it no longer updates and I have to reload it into Premiere. What gives?

What's the version of Premiere Pro After Effects you're using? The first thing to make sure of is that you need to have the same version of both apps. Are you on MacOS or Windows? Are you able to reproduce it in a new project?

Thank you for that answer. So, are same "versions" basically the same year, for example AE 2024 and Premiere 2024, etceteras? Thanks

That's correct. If you're Premiere Pro version 24.x, After Effects needs to be 24.x. Restarting the computer sometimes helps in such cases.
