After Effects not recognizing adobe animate or media encoder

Title. Attempting to import a .fla gives an error stating adobe animate is not installed, even though it is. Same issue when attempting to use media encoder from after effects. Animate and media encoder are able to communicate with no issue, only after effects is having problems. Uninstalling and reinstalling after effects has not helped, uninstalling and reinstalling animate has not helped. Is there something I can change in the preferences?

The first thing to do is to make sure you use the same version of all the apps. Are you on macOS or Windows? Are you getting this issue with all the projects or just a particular one?
