After Effects playing only rendered part

Community Beginner ,
May 05, 2025 May 05, 2025

When I press play in my timeline, it plays only the rendered part and starts looping it. This has never happened before so I have no idea why is this happening.

Also, when I leave the playhead and don't play the video at all, it doesn't render... Normally it would render when inactive...

Can anyone help me?

Thank you for your tip! A quick restart eventually helped with the problem.

Check Composition -> Preview -> Cache Frames When Idle for background rendering when inactive.

Otherwise it looks like there is an error message indicating your machine is low on Memory and so AE is only able to produce a few frames of animation. I don't know your machine specs nor if you have other Adobe apps open, but watch for the orange memory warning bar and follow the instructions in it. I'd also say if you can update to the latest 25.2 release of AE, AE will now utilize your disk better instead of requiring all frames to be in memory.
