Hi, my after effects won't render! it will get to a certain point and then just stop and sit at that specific spot for hours, but it's not crashing it just freezes. The time doesn't move and i can't stop the render without force quitting. i'm also getting the "cached preview needs two or more frames to playback" though i have 8 gigs of RAM and nothing else is open. I use an older version of ae (2020) because my computer is older. The preview won't show and it won't open in media encoder, i've tried removing anything that could be an issue but it's not working :(( pls help!

Try the following two steps  -

1. Change to CPU Rendering Instead of GPU

  • File > Project Settings on the top menu bar.
  • Under Video Rendering and Effects, change the drop-down option to Software Only.

2. Purge Cache

  • Go to  Edit > Purge > All Memory and Disk Cache.
  • A pop-up should appear asking for confirmation. Click OK.

Try rendering again

Hi ajcool,

Did you try the expert's suggestions? If that didn't help, try removing the effects or media used at that point in the Timeline where it stops rendering. In most cases, an oversized media or an effect could cause this issue.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu
