Animated GIFs created in AfterEffects Breaking in Emails

What is the reason for an animated GIF to break/not show up in an email vs an animated GIF created in Photoshop? I assumed the end file is all that mattered and that it didnt matter how it was created. Any insight woul dbe helpful. Thanks!
