Without any info about your system and the project we can't really tell you much. Based on your screenshot it simply looks like your layer is many times larger than the comp and you simply run out of memory because with the settings you have the effect would need to generate too many LED dots. Start by increasing the LED size and spacing and see if it will eventually start to show a result.

Hi Leah. Being that the most current version of Continuum is 2023, it's almost certainly a fundamental compatibility issue. Continuum 2019 was designed for, and tested with, the current version of After Effects at the time which was After Effects CC2019.  Legacy versions of Continuum do not get updated in that way, e.g Continuum 2019 getting updated to run in AE 2020+.

I think your best solutions are to either:

1. (The free solution) Downgrade After Effects to the version that matched Continuum at the point of purchase

2. (The not free solution) Upgrade your Continuum license to be compatible with the more current version of AE, which is available on the Continuum product page. The cost depends on the version you bought and are updating to, but if you log into your account, the cost will be shown to you.

Some more details:

All perpetual purchases come with 12 months upgrade and support, so if someone bought Continuum 2019 they would be able to update and run it with AE 2020. But to run 2021+, you would need to renew the support contract (or be on a subscription) to continue getting support for newer versions.

If you upgrade while your contract is still active, you will just pay the regular upgrade price (and your contract, along with version date, will extend by a year from its original end date, rather than a year from the upgrade date).

If your contract expires, but it's been expired for under 36 months, you can purchase it as an Upgrade but with a Legacy fee - I believe this is either 100 or 200 depending on the specific license(s).

If you're more than 36 months after the Contract End-Date, then you do not qualify for Upgrade Pricing at all anymore - you would need to purchase an altogether new license.

I mention this because if the user purchased in 2019, they may or may not be past this point. Along with that, the License/Invoice is tied to a primary email address, so if a User logs into our site using their email, but a colleague/manager was the one to make the purchase, our system would not offer them the upgrade because it will not associate their email with the original purchase.
