Bended paths with pen tool keep moving if I add other keyframes

I'm having an issue with the pen tool I don't seem to be able to resolve.

Let's say I make an object move from point A to point B in a straight line, but I want this path to be a little curved, so I use the pen tool to make the path more "roundish". Then I want it to stay still for a few moments and then move again to point C. So I place a new keyframe for it to stay still.

But when I place this keyframe the bended path I made with the pen tool makes the object keep moving while I want it to keep still. What did I miss?

Why is that? I guess I'm missing something here, but don't know exacly what.

So I kinda found a way around it, I made the interpolation of the keyframes linear, then use the vertex tool to bend the path from A to B, and then in the next keyframe I use the vertex tool again to fix the moving object, but still it feels like there is a "regular" way of doing this instead of this workaround I found.
