Best version of Aftereffects that handles video

I'm using Premiere Pro 2015.3 since it solid on my system. The downside is that the companion version of Aftereffects, 2015, doesn't A) dynamically link to PP and B) it crashes when I import video. I know AE is mostly a motion graphics tool but I want to do a simple object removal from a video clip. Can AE actually do object removal? If so, is there a more solid version of AE that works with video? (I really don't care about the dynamic link feature)  Or am I barking up the wrong tree by trying to do object removal in a motion graphics program?

And what formats are you actualyl working with? What kind of object needs to be removed? You need to be more specific. Of course it's perfectly possible to do some of that stuff in AE, but without understanding your requirements nobody can advise.

I'm removing a lav mic cable that wasn't dressed well on the set. I installed AE 2017 and it is running. I set my sequence to 1 min. (but I'm fixing a 11 minute piece so I'll fix in increments.)  I think I'm ok for now. I'm still on PrPro 2015 but I may dabble with 2017 to see if I can get dynamic link working later. It's not a big deal if I don't. That feature has been iffy for me on a few versions so, I usually avoid using it and just go back and forth between PrPro and AE the old fashioned way.
