It is extremely unfortunate that I need to make this post. I have done EVERYTHING imaginable and recommended to fix my issue yet it still persists. I cannot drag files from the project pane into my timeline. This issue occurs with all file types. I have removed and disabled all of my plugins. I have installed and reinstalled after effects. I have reset my workspace. I have installed the most recent NVIDIA GPU studio driver. My after effects is up to date! I cannot believe that an application I have been using since 2016 is virtually unusable. This is really disappointing to me. Adobe may lose a long-term subscriber.
Thank you for reporting this issue, sorry to hear you're experiencing this. What version of After Effects are you using? And did the failure start with an update of AE or of the OS?
Thanks for reporting this issue and for any further information you can provide,

I am using version 23.5. This issue arose after not using AE for about a month and a half, during that time I believe there may have been an update.

Thank you, @Jenna31526225pm66. Would you be able to provide a screen recording of what happens when you try to drag from the Project panel into the Timeline? Does dragging assets into the Composition panel, rather than the Timeline, work instead?
Thanks again,

Hello, this issue is still persisting. I just took a screen recording for you, but unfortunately, I am unable to post it here. Why I have to upload a link to a video file rather than import the file is a bit odd to me. Where am I supposed to post my recording for you to be able to see it?

Sorry about that. You can upload to a video streaming site or to the cloud and share the link here.
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Jenna,
Apologies, this may not be related, but in your screen recording, the mouse's pointer never seems to be on the point you're clicking. Could the calibration(?) be off?
(I don't like to blame other things, especially as you think it is connected to an update.)

Are you using a remote system? From the looks of it your mouse pointer is off, just as @ShiveringCactus points out.
