Cannot Modify Roto Brush Selection

Community Beginner ,
May 31, 2023 May 31, 2023

I have been trying to use the roto brush but have found that After Effects won't let me modify the roto brush selection after I stop roto brushing the layer. When I try to edit again, it just shows the background as transparent and does not allow me to make any changes to the selection. Any ideas for how to fix this? I'm using v23.4 on a Macbook Pro m1 with 16gb memory on Ventura 13.4.

Hey Evan,

Welcome to the community. This must be frustrating. Could you check if you are making the changes in the Layer Viewer and not the Composition preview? (Double-click on the layer to open the Later Viewer) Also, check if you have the Roto-Brush tool selected. We're here to help, just need some more info.

Thanks,

Ishan

Just following up, haven't gotten a response in a couple days and I still haven't figured out how to resolve the issue.

Appreciate any help!

Sorry for the delayed response. Could you share your project file and the original footage through direct message so I can test this on my end?

Open file in Media Encoder and create an mov or tiff outout instead of the mp4 clip, then clear all AE caches and try again.
