Is this no longer included in AE?  Opened 2018 project in 2019, and it says Color Finesse is missing.  ;(

Yep they got rid of Finesse in thist release. In changelog we can read:

  • After Effects does not include the Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse plug-in.

I didn't see it either. I haven't checked the feature notes for this release but that is where I would look for an answer.

Seems like it's deprecated in favour of (the admittedly pretty good now) Lumetri Color.

This is a real shame. Color Finesse is a very powerful and underused/underrated plugin.

Plugin is not dead so it is not a shame. Plugin just is not a part of AE anymore (but you can buy it and use it in AE) - probably because of being underused/underrated as you said and because Adobe built Lumetri Color panels.

What a pity - legacy projects broken.

And Lumetri is nice for applying prefab looks, but by far not as convenient as Color Finesse for grading.

The interface of Color Finess is much clearer - for Lumteri we are folding and unfolding all the time for simple corrections.

Lumetri has some issues with other effects - it interferes with deformation fx.

If someone was heavily dependant on Colour Finesse in his work it is still possible because Finesse just disapeared from AE but is still avaliable as a plugin: https://www.syntheticaperture.com/products/color-finesse-3-0-pi-for-mac

I doubt that, but technicaly it is possible. If you check history of AE or any other piece of software from any developer - most of the time during lifespan of that software you et nev features with updates. But from time to time some features can dissapear (will be removed) and that can happen by many reasons. Plugin/function can become obsolete (we can say that Color Finesse as underused and underrated tool become obsolete when Lumetri Color came on board of AE), function is not being used any more by most of users (so developing it and adapting to new versions is not wort the time and money for developers to spend), third party plugins can disspaear because od just contract between companies just finished or there are some other issues that make further cooperation impossible. Plugin/function can also dissapear due to obsolete technology (f.eg. raytracing in AE).

So as you see - there can be many reasons and we as a users can only accept those decisions and live with them. no matter if the result for us will be accepting those changes by adapting to new tools/new technics, or changing main tool.

As for Color Finesse there is also third way - buy that plugin from its developers and use it as before.

No, the link doesn't work. Currently it is not possible to find official website of SA to download or buy Color Finesse... It's a real shame to the company to throw out this project to the trash.
