Color shift when creating shapes from vector layers imported from AI

Community Beginner ,
Feb 11, 2021 Feb 11, 2021

Hi,

I'm trying to animate in AE some characters I've designed in AI. After importing AI files to AE as compositions, I've been trying to animate anchors on my vector layers, by creating shapes from them. The problem is, when I create the shapes, a slight color shift appears in my design. How do I fix that? (both AI and AE files have matching color profiles selected, also there's no shift in color at all before selecting the "create shapes from layers" comand)

Please help:)

Ok, got it! In case anyone wonders – the "Create shapes from vector layers" function works all rigth with the 17.6 version of After Effects, but fails to preserve proprer colors in the 17.7 (latest update) version of the program.

Cheers;p

Thank you for your recommandation.

However, for this problem specifically, it is an update bug. I spent an hour and a half figuring out what was going on with my color profiles in illustrator / after effects.

As suggested by Justyna5FC2, I switch to version 17.6 and the problem was solved.

Thank you 🙂

Did you make sure you were working with the same color profile in both applications?

Hi Justyna5FC2,

Sorry for your issue.

Is it happening with all Ai files or a particular one? Can you upload a screenshot that shows the problem?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

Yes, it's happening to all Ai files. Also, as I've written above, changing Ae version does solve the issue, so... I guess the Ai files must had been ok then;-)

Its probably not recommended practice but usually if you simply turn off color management in After Effects it will fix any color issues coming from AI! 😉 Its a quick fix but really you should explore the color management options to make sure all apps are communicating properly. I use Adobe Bridge to set up color management accross all apps, makes it a bit easier.

Also, just in case your not aware of this preference in Illustrator which can affect the appearance of blacks in your images.
