Dear Community,
I have a problem with a corrupt project.
- When I open a project, which I’ve been working on the day before, I get this message:
‘’After effects warning: unable to read project color settings. Color settings reset to factory default.’’
- When I try to load it from an auto-save It says the same thing, those are all corrupted aswell.
- When I drag the project into a new ae project I get the message ‘’missing data in file.’’( 33::4 )
then it wil say ‘’ can not find source item for layer ID= ‘number’ will replace with a placeholder. If you press ok, it will preceed to do this for thousands of different ID’s. And I get thousands of ‘’recovered’’ files in my project which have the missing icon, so this doesn’t work.
- My last try was using a third party file recovery, but all those files are seem unrecoverable.
Do you all have any more options I can try, to fix this damaged file?
There is ALOT of time lost if I have to redo it all.
Thanks in advance

No and no. That's why it's strongly advised to save a copy/ incremental version/ create a backup every now and then to have a way back. Sorry, but this is hopeless. AE's file structures are complicated to the point that some stuff only gets calculated when the file is actually saved and it is pretty much impossible for anyone to understand these structures outside AE. You just have to swallow the bitter pill and redo it, this time obeying safer file handling procedures as described.

Hi Mylenium,
Thank you very much for your reply.
It's what I feared, already started redoing it. This will be a harsh lesson to make back-ups everyday...
Have a nice day.
