Creating scenes in After Effects

New Here ,

I am trying to do full animation in after effects, but when the length of the animation gets several minutes long, I find it quite hard to keep track of all my layers.

I know in Adobe Animate, that you can work with "scenes" that divide the animation up into different sections, and then when you render, it combines all the different scenes into óne movie. I have tried to find an equivalent solution in After Effects, but I cannot seem to find any.

Is there any way to make to make the editing process a bit more manageable, when you work with a lot of layers and several scenes in After Effects?

Thanks.

You can organize all your scenes in comps (one comp for each scene, subscene, or whatever logical unit you like) and put all those comps into a main-comp. The main-comp is the one, you render.

I usual end up with 4 or 5 hierarchy levels nesting one comp into another. AE don't mind this, acutally it's easier for AE to process just a few layers, instead of having a large layer stack and long comps, which is you current situation.

You can navigate fast through all the hierachy levels using TAB and the popping up mini-flowchart.
