Cryptomattes are VERY slow

Community Beginner ,

Cryptomattes used in multi-layer comps are extremely slow to render.

This has been the case for all recent versions of AE and on all platforms.

For example, in a recent project, a comp with live cryptomattes took 12 hours to render.  With the cryptomattes prerendered to ProRes files, it took 20 minutes to render.  Working with the crypotmattes in a preview situation doesn't seem to be nearly as slow.  This mainly effects final rendering in both the Render Queue and Media Encoder.

Something is obviously wrong here!

Please read more about this in this community discussion:

As is, After Effects is a poor solution for 3D compositing.  Fixing this one issue would make a tremendous difference in our pipeline.  Thank you for your attention to this.

Can you try the latest version of After Effects and see if it's better?

Let us know. I am moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for now.

Thanks,
Nishu
