Hi everyone,
I´ve now had the problem several times that my After Effects gets unstable and crashes on trying to import Photoshop files, aswell as trying to clean database and cache.
Resetting the preferences (sometimes combined with a re-install) fixes the problem,
but my custom preferences are just basic stuff like less garish label colors, javascript necessary for plugins and custom startup files and cache folders. This really shouldn´t cause After Effects to trip, we are talking about a professional expensive software here.
It´s obviously a known problem since on crashing AE suggests resetting the preferences to default.
There´s a bunch of basic tasks AE can´t do without third party plugins and scripts,
so keeping the default settings isn´t a viable option for many (if any) users.
I´ve been using After Effects for 10 years now dealing with all sorts of errors and problems, and this bug has been coming up for the last year or so, and it is beyond annoying.
