Customize Render Settings H.264

Love the sort of new H.264 output option rather than an uncompressed 12 GB 30 second AVI file, however I can't seem to tell AE to use that setting every time. As well as the output location. The output stays consistent as long as I don't exit the program, but upon re-entering I have to specify. The older versions seem to remember the settings until changed. Could be wrong.
