Editing individual vertice positions of a shape layer

Explorer ,
Mar 16, 2025 Mar 16, 2025

Hi,

I'm mapping battles and have an issue when I end up having too many vertices in a shape layer. I need to sometimes have multiple vertices moved to the same position. When I do that manually with too many vertices, I end up having them all bunched up imperfectly on top of each other, roughly. Is there any way I can select multiple vertices and have them positioned in the same xy?

If you look at the attached image, you will see that I have those 2 clusters of vertices that are fairly horribly imprecisely placed to each others position. Is there a way to do that precisely?

Thanks for writing in, kresimirk.

Try this:

1. Drag and select the vertices you want to reposition.

2. Double-click of them. It'll bring up the Transformation box with scale and rotation controls.

3. Grab one of the corners, hold down Shift + Ctrl/Command, and scale down.

Aligning multiple vertices precisely can definitely be tricky. Have you tried using the Align panel or snapping options to help with positioning? Maybe there's a script that could automate it a bit. Would love to hear if anyone has a good workflow for this

Sorry I was checking and waiting for a response, and I somehow did not see a notification for you reply (still doesn't show up).

Align Panel and Snapping option I did not try. In fact never used em, am new to AE. I've spoken with AI who keeps directing me to change Positioning, which just ends up re-positioning the entire shape layer, and NOT the actual individual vertice. There doesn't seem to be any panel that I'm aware of that actually displays xy of individual vertice.

AI seems to think I can select multiple vertices and then tweak their position to achieve this. It keeps suggesting that, but hence it just can't be too obvious about where I can actually see that. Seems to go into a fantasy scenario of there being options which aren't actually there (or is tied to some older AE version, I dunno).

Thanks,
