Full 32bit linear workflow

New Here ,

Hi,

This is more of a question for Adobe directly, so I’m sorry if I‘ve posted this in the wrong place.

When can we expect full support in after effects for 32bit linear workflow? Many of the stock effects and colour correction tools still only support 8 and 16bit.

The advantages to comping in 32bit linear are tremendous, yet we haven’t been able to take full advantage of this because most of your tools don’t support it - and it’s been this way for many years.

So I was wondering if there’s any intention to improve this in the software, or if I’m just wasting my time and should consider another application for compositing my images.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

As the AE team continues working on their re-write of AE's core architecture, I would expect them to start addressing some of the older effects.I would recommend filing feature requests for the effects you use most that mess up your workflow to help the AE team prioritize. Keep in mind that, in many cases, using an 8-bit effect in a 32-bit project will work just fine. The issues occur if it's in an effects stack with other effects that push it past the bounds of 8-bit color space.

Don't hold your breath.

Adobe has enough trouble as it is getting new version releases to work as advertised, to say nothing of making improvements to stuff that works right now.

Even if they did, it's a safe bet that they wouldn't make the fixes you seek all at once -- they'd introduces a one or two at a time.

Thanks for the reply Szalam. I'm yet to experience a situation where using an 8bit effect in a 32bit project doesn't cause issues. Happy to hear the team is re-writing the core architecture - it really needs it. The whole colour workflow in AE is unnecessarily complicated and doesn't make sense in a way that other compositing and 3D applications seem to manage so easily and logically. Thanks again for replying, and looking forward to more constructive updates to AE in the future.

Hi

Have you ever found a priority list of 8/16bit plugins that needs to be optimised for 32bit workflow?

32bit workflow i normal now, but it's a mindfield of old plugins that is a problem for opholding a normal workflow.

Best regards,

Jakob Eriksen
