So, I just bought After Effects today and I've been experiencing some errors within the program.

Every time I import a clip, it comes out with a green/purple filter. Not only that but even when I try to edit of any sort, it immediately crashes and loses my project.

I've looked up several different ways on how to fix it before but to no avail

Please help!

There is more than a 90% chance the problem lies in the MPEG footage. MPEG footage is compressed using an inter-frame compression scheme and at best only one out of every 3 frames is a real frame. The missing frames are generated by the CPU when it calculates where the pixels would be moving and how the colors change. That's where the funky color information comes from.

You can probably save the footage by rendering it to a suitable production format. The Adobe Media Encoder will usually do a very good job making the conversion. Don't use the MPEG formats like h.264 for production work. Pick a lossless format that is designed for production.

If you are going to work with video it is a really good idea for you to study video formats, video standards, compression and frame rates. Until you have expert knowledge use standard format templates for your compositions and don't monkey with the rendering settings or the presets.
