How to add a warp effect to just a mask?

I'm trying to warp only the word "close" to make it look like a pinch/squeeze, but whenever I add an effect it seems like it's still adding it to the original unmasked video. I've changed the anchor point to the mask, and if I precompose the mask it will do the same thing when I add an effect.

Hi @dylan_7553,

Thanks for the message. First precompose the text, then add any distortion effect. You can mask the precomp, as well. Let me know if you've got that working. I hope we can help you here. Sorry for the issue.

Thanks,
Kevin
