How to prevent shape layer masks from creating a contour?

New Here ,
Oct 30, 2021 Oct 30, 2021

Hey there! 🙂

I just wonder... when I mask an image by using a shapes' alpha channel it will create an ugly contour (it seems that the shape layer won't make a 100% overlay above the image below it and that the edge of the original image below comes through, without the colored and multiplied layer style of that shape mask layer above it)

Is there any way to prevent that? the actual contour of the shape is fully disabled.

No problem with the german version! One more question: any of the shapes layers used as alpha mattes includes strokes??

Could you share this composition (or project) with us to review it?

I've replace your JPG with a solid and with another image an there is no problem. Have you tried to convert that JPG file into any other format?

So damn weird! Could you send me over your edit? So that I can look into it over here myself

What format would you suggest? I will play around a bit but for now this issue kinda makes 0 sense?

No matter what I try, as soon as an image got bright parts, these parts will be clearly visible as thin line. Darker parts won't show up like this of course because I assume it blends in with the dark overlay.

Correction: Darker parts won't blend in as they should. They won't cause a white line they will end up in a dark line as you can see here... as if the shape would only cover 99.99% of the image beneath

Here its more obvious. on the left you can see the normal shape mask without any overlay and you can see that there is a "transition stripe" between the mask and the background fill layer (black one). When I fill the shape mask with a color and make the shape layer visible you can see that "transition stripe" won't be affected by this somehow...

I've used your project with a complete new image and i can reproduce your problem. Not sure why this is happening. The way I've "solved" is to use the shape layer as alpha matte and a copy of that shape with an extra stroke with the same color as the multiplied layer.
