I have trouble with shapes form vector layers

New Here ,
May 16, 2021 May 16, 2021
I can create shapes in front of vector layers but then I can't work on the paths.
When I select them, it does not show me selected, if when I select the group, but the entire layer appears as selected and I cannot work with the path either.
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it's a problem with the latest version, I have 18.2 installed.

If you have the selection tool (v) active and you select the path in the timeline, the Selection tool changes shape and color as you move around the composition panel. If you have the selection tool (v) active and you select the path in the timeline, the Selection tool changes shape and color as you move around the composition panel. As you move close to the selected path the cursor will change from an angled black arrow (normal) to a white arrowhead with no shaft that will allow you to drag a selection around one or more points. When the cursor gets over any selected point or path it changes to a black arrowhead with no tail allowing you to select that path or point, or bezier handle if you have bezier paths. When you select a path in the timeline all of the points are selected so if you want to edit one point you have to first drag a selection around the point or points you want to move to select them.

If you have the pen tool selected (g) and you have a path selected in the timeline the entire path will be selected. The normal pen tool cursor will change to the black selection arrowhead when you roll over a point or change to the Add Point tool when you roll over a line segment, or the regular pen tool when you are not over a path. You can change the pen tool to the drag a selection white arrowhead allowing you to drag a selection around one or more points if you hold down the Ctrl/Cmnd key (Windows/Mac). When you roll over a point you can hold down the Ctrl/Cmnd key to change the pen tool to the remove point tool.

If you have the pen tool selected and you hold down the Alt/Option key (Windows/Mac) the cursor will change to the white arrowhead Drag a selection tool until you roll over a point. Then it will change to the Convert Vertex tool that looks like a V to allow you to reset or edit a curve. When you roll over a bezier handle with the Alt/Option key held down the cursor also changes to the convert point tool allowing you to grab the handle and break the link between them.

Editing a path is possible without having the path selected in the timeline if you have the pen tool selected, but it is easier if you select the path you want to edit in the timeline first. Editing a path with the Selection tool active is not possible unless you select the path in the timeline first. When you are editing paths you have to pay close attention to the tool and make sure that it is the tool you want.

The only other option for editing paths is to hold down the pen tool to change the active tool to either the Vertex tool (looks like a pen) the add vertex (pen with a plus sign) or the subtract vertex tool (pen with a minus sign) or the feather tool. Just pressing the g key twice changes the pen tool from the current pen tool to the feather tool and back again.

There is nothing in your screenshots that shows that you are trying to edit the path. You have the selection tool active in one screenshot with no path selected and the move tool (looks like a hand) selected in the other with no path selected.

One more note. * The "Drag & Drop here..." area is buggy and should not be used to share images. Please use the toolbar or just drag your images to the reply field.
