Is there a way to make it look like I am laying bricks?

Scenario: From another background, I want it to look as though bricks are being laid and the wall is being built.

Question: What are some ways I might acheive this?

Except with my bricks,

Perhaps I can carve around some bricks and and somehow create an animated mask?

You can create a custom shatter map and force gradient. Refer to the effect's explanation in the online help.
