lightning layers in AE

Hello im new to this program etc. etc. ive watched the tutorials so please dont rip me; but i cant get my lightning layers to show throough on my text animation layers. what  am i misssing.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question.

Without any screenshots of your timeline, effects settings and so on this doesn't make any sense. Your post is way too generic and such vague "This doesn't work." things never go anywhere. You have to be much more specific and actualyl explain what you are doing.
