Mac Studio Upgrade for AE

Explorer ,
Oct 19, 2025 Oct 19, 2025

Hi all, I currently have a base M1 Max 32GB and have found it decent for AE, but looking to upgrade. I work almost entirely in AE and Prem, but my absolute main concern

is timeline playback in AE. Export

render times I'm not overally fussed about. I'm trying to keep costs down and

feel that more RAM is always beneficial for AE so.... Do I go M4 Max 64+GB, or

say M1/2 Ultra, again with 64+GB? I do almost exclusively 2D Motion design.

I guess I'm looking to

get the point of diminishing returns on spec. Sometimes you get to a point and

any money spent on anything extra is all for very minor gains. The biggest leap

per buck I suppose is what I'm wondering. I'll go second hand in any case I

guess, with the biggest noticeable jump in previews for AE. All advice taken on board!

If you are concerned about preview, I would recommend you choose the graphic card with big VRAM (Video memory).
