Sometimes it works and I don't know why it doesn't the other times. There used to be a white arrow in the pen tools (select behind in PS), I can't find it anymore.
When I try to edit my shape which is just 2 points, I can either make a point bezier with the pen tool, or can show and manipulate the bounding box, but I can't seem to just move the points anymore. Is there like a mode I need to enter or what am I missing?
Clicking on the path in the shape doesn't seem to change anything.

Aside from possible issues with hardware accelerated drawing and/ or general bugginess the old procedures apply: Click outside the path to deselect the points first, then re-select them with a click. Anything more than that will require actual information about your system, your version of AE, screenshots down to even info about your input device.

Your solution applies if I select the pen tool? Could not recreate it...
I think I found it, but I still can't believe how much of a pain it is.
I double click the layer in the preview, so the box appears
Then I double click one of the corners, they turn whiter
Then I choose the pen tool and if I'm careful, it turns into an arrow when I'm exactly over a point.
If I do anything wrong, click slightly off, I can repeat the process.
I love AE, but shape selecting is an absolute pain.
