moving puppet pins around on a 3d layer

Is it possible to drag puppet pins around on a layer that has been made 3d? When a layer is in 2d one can drag the puppet pin tools around with the mouse, but if the layer is put into 3d, I can't click and drag the points around anymore. I am able move the puppet pins if I go into the position properties of a single pin and manipulate the values that way, but it's a real pain if I'm trying to work fast.

I applied pins to the layer AFTER I had made it 3d, and if I create a mesh with pins while the layer is 2d, and THEN make it 3d, any changes I make in the pins are kept. It seems puppet pins are a function of a tool that only works on 2d layers, is there a way to drag puppet pins on a 3d layer the same way you can on a 2d layer?

You pretty much already figured out the logic here - since the initail mesh creation is based on the transparency contours, it works on the 2D data of the layer. Unless they work on the effect itself to be fully 3D interactive you have to live with the limitation of doing your stuff in the layer panel or a separate pre-comp and eyxeball how it looks in your 3D space.
