Need 2 or more frames to cache preview HELP!!!

New Here ,
Oct 26, 2021 Oct 26, 2021

Tried everything, purging, clearing cache, increasing GB for disk cache, extending work area bar. Nothing seems to be working and I still get this pop up when pressing space bar. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks!

Start be enabling all RGB channels in the comp viewer. For anything more actual info about your system, your comp settings, your preview settings and so on is required.

Can you post a screenshot of the whole of the AE?  It's hard to spot any issues from what you've shared.

Some questions that might help too:

  1. Do you have audio in the comp?  Does the audio preview if you tap the period key on the keypad?
  2. If you tap zero on the keypad, does is preview the comp without sound?  If you, try previewing what you can, AE will build each frame into the PC's RAM, then try playing back.
  3. Do you have a green line on the timeline?
  4. If you move to a different point in the timeline, how long does it take for the comp window to update?
  5. Are you using an 3D effects, such as Cinema4D?
  6. Are you graphics card drivers up to date?
  7. Those markers - are you using them to drive subtitles?  If you deactivate the text layers, can you preview?

I suspect the issue is you've got a lot of RAM intensive effects/layers and AE is struggling.  You're also trying to preview at full quality.  If you drop that to Auto, does it work?

Hi, thanks for the reply! I have a lot of MOV videos in there-- could that be the reason? Time remapping makes my animation choppy so I've had to copy the MOV multiple times, and sequence layers, then put them in precomps. The whole project is 4 minutes and 30 seconds long. Could that be the reason why? However, the file is only 25MB in size.

1. Yes I have audio in the comp. The period key doesn't seem to be working for me. When I press the period it just zooms in (I have a Mac)

3. I don't have any line at all as it won't let me preview.

4. Not sure
5. No 3D effects

6. Not sure, I have to check and figure out how to do that
7. Nope!
Attached is a screenshot of my project

Sorry, I've not been able to reply before now.

Well, you've eliminated all the obvious causes.  By the way, in the preview panel, you can see what key is assigned to audio preview and you can change the settings there.

You're using a MOV - what would happen if you dropped that through AME to produce a PRO-RES video?  That's generally a better option for reusing / recompressing videos.

If you preview any of the nested comps, do they work?  For that matter, can you preview any other project?

And if in the preview panel, you change the setting from Entire Duration to Work Area Extended by Current Time, does that help at all (I doubt it will, but just trying to eliminate any areas).
