Need Help using Adobe After Effects - Template Adjustments

New Here ,
Feb 06, 2025 Feb 06, 2025

Hello

I am completely new to using Adobe After Effects, so I apologize in advance for potentially not using the correct terminology.

I purchased and downloaded this template: https://motionarray.com/after-effects-templates/magic-book-slideshow-251937/

I am creating my own art book and this template is perfect.  Following the video instructions by Motionarray, I was able to upload my images to all of the pages and make some changes.

However, I am coming across issues with making further alterations to the various effects. Also, for some reason the image for the cover of the book is upside down and I don't know how to rotate it correctly.

Can anyone offer some advice and tips on how to make changes to a template?

I would like to change/edit the following things:

1. Rotate the cover image 180 degrees

2. Change the book edge color

3. Change the hue of the lighting on the left side as it is very yellow

4. Remove the gold corner embellishments that show up at the end of the video (see 2nd screenshot)

Below is a screenshot of the beginning of the movie

Hi @BeautifullyDarkArt,

Thanks for your questions and screenshots. It is not easy to give such advice without seeing the contents of your pre-compositions that make up your Final Comp. We can only make one assumption; access to change these things lie within each pre-composition. We can guess, but it would be easier to know more about what's required to change this template. Didn't it come with instructions? If not, check out the placeholder pre-comps for each element and make adjustments to individual items there: You should be able to rotate the cover footage, change colors of effects, and turn on and off parameters in the pre-comps there. Beyond that, screenshots would help.

Is this a one and done thing? If not, you may want to embark on an After Effects 101 course should you want to continue doing this kind of work. You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of this amazing application. Quite the learning curve, but you should be able to do things like manipulate templates after such training quite easily. Sorry for the hassle. Hope we can help you.

Thanks,

Kevin

Start by opening the Flowchart. Select the composition timeline, then use the Composition Menu or the Keyboard Shortcut Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + F11.

Next, expand the flow chart and look for the composition that contains the layers you want to modify.

You can also right-click on any source file in the Project Panel and select Reveal in Composition.

That will take you to the comp, where the original layer is so you can make the edits you need to make.
