Need text stroked with brush.....

I have created text in Photoshop with a special stroke, per a client's request.  They love it. I need the text to animate into an After Effects comp character-at-a-time.OutlinedTheSnapper.jpg

I can't find a way to create this text look in After Effects.  The only solutions I've come up with are:

1) Create 10 images with Photoshop ("T", "TH", "THE".....)

2) Animate a mask to reveal character-at-a-time

Then import that Photoshop layer into AE, add a mask, and animate the mask using "Hold" keyframes, it will take couple of minutes only

How do you want it to be animated exactly, like a typewriter?

That would be the simplest animation that would work.

First convert the text into editable text by right click, create, convert to editable text. Then in the effects and presets panel add the typewriter preset. Adjust keyframes to taste.

That won't work.  The process in Photoshop requires rasterizing.

How did you create the stroke in PS? You can use stroke in the text panel in Ae, or you can set the fill opacity to 0 percent and use a layer style stroke (same as in Ps) - in both cases it will be vector text with a stroke and no fill so it doesn't have to be rasterized.

Worst case, keep it rasterized and one layer and you can use a mask with hold keyframes letter by letter but I don't think that's necessary.

The stroke is more complicated than simply using the character properties.  It's actually stroked with a brush using this process:

I see. if using 10 hold keyframes is two painful, a workaround you could try, , or maybe it's a text that need to be a template where you could change the text and you want easy enough typewriter effect, you could try this:

1. export the raster image as usual
2. export another instance of the layer, with regular layer style stroke, in a way that would overlap over the original design (like you want to hide it over the other layer)
3. in Ae convert the copy to editable text and place above the original design
4. set the layer below to "Alpha matte" so it will use the above layer as a clipping mask
5. set the typewrite effect to the above layer

here's how it looks for demonstration purpose:

and maybe you could recreate that look in after effects using effects. so an after effects live text (or photoshop convet to editable text) and use roughen edges effect on type with only type stroke and no fill (no layer style, Ae has a text feature that has stroke and no fill in the character panel) it has a very similar look
