NewTek SpeedHQ Codec No Longer Supported

We have been using Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and Media Encoder to create graphics and videos for our Tricaster video switcher... Since 2017, Media Encoder randomly stopped being able to identify the SpeedHQ codec, then in 2018 we heard AE and Premiere were also going to stop supporting it. 

After the 2019 update, we have no longer been able to use new Adobe programs; so we have had to resort to installing old versions of After Effects that recognize the codec. 

With the 2020 release, we are no longer able to install 2017 and 2018 versions of any Adobe programs. As we bring new people onto our team, they are not able to install the older versions of After Effects and are not able to complete work for us. 

Aside from rendering huge Quicktime files and importing into Tricaster to convert to SpeedHQ codec, what are our options?

Will Adobe add this codec back in the future?

Why did support stop in the first place?

Codecs like yours aren't used much outside of the Video Toaster community.  Maybe there's a NewTek user group you can ask.

Did you find a solution for this? I have the same problem, even after installing NewTek codec for macOS...

Yes, but unfortunately the "solution" is only a bandaid. We've continued working in After Effects 2018 and haven't had issues with that. Eventually Adobe will stop providing support for that version of the software, but we still use some programs like Encore CS6 and it still works. We called Adobe and had them send an exe (or install file in your case for macOS) for AE 2018 and I've saved that for our team to install whenever we get a new member. Work can be done in AE 2020 and the project file can be saved as the older version, opened in 2018, and then the files export properly with the codec. Another "solution" that has worked for us is installing the newest NDI Tools from NewTek's website. That's been a hit or miss, especially with the new TriCaster 2 Elite; NDI Tools installation either makes everything work on one machine or makes everything stop working on some others. Other than that, the best "solution" we have is just keeping the PC & Mac install files of the 2018 versions of the programs and sending those to anyone we work with. Hope that helps!

I have a Mac Studio and the M1 Premiere doesn't recognise the codec however the intel version does.

I had the same problem dealing with AAFs - could only export them using the Intel version of Premiere.
