I´ve just downloaded the actual version of After Effects and completed the tutorials with no issues. Now I tried starting my own project and imported a MP4 File of a 10 second video.

The composition shows the 10 second time span and the name of the file is shown, but the video itself stays dark and with no audio. I cant even start the black video with space etc.

As soon as I try importing another file, the App crashes.

I already tried using different files MP4, MOV, AVI, but all the same.

I´m new to this App and don´t know what else I can do, can someone help?

MP4 files can be problematic. They require a lot of processing power to decode because as many as three out of every four frames may be generated by algorithms that look at every real fourth frame and make a guess where the pixels should be on the other 3. They can also have variable frame rates. MP4 files are not a good choice for professional production.

Your best option may be to open Adobe Media Encoder and choose Quicktime and then ProRez LT preset to render a production master-quality video from your MP4. The transcode should go very quickly.

Turn off hardware accelerated decoding in the preferences and/ or transcode the fiel to a compatible format.
