Output Module / Output To - Default Relative File Path (Tokens) not persistent across sessions

I've set up an Output Module with the "Output To:" using tokens to a relative path from the project folder:

[projectFolder]\..\Output\[compName].[fileextension]

Expected behavior would be to submit to the Render Queue and it goes to the specified path.

Actual Behavior:

Open AE, send comp to Render queue, File Path is "Not Yet Specified"

If I submit the same comp again immediately "Not Yet Specified"

If I select a filepath ANYWHERE, desktop, network drive, doesn't matter, just open the dialog and click save.

Submit the comp again to the render queue. Output To filepath is correct relative to project folder.

Closing the project and reopening, submit comp to Render Queue. File Path is correct.

Close the Application and reopen. submit comp to Render Queue. File Path reverts to "Not Yet Specified"

In Preferences -> Output "Use Default File Name and Folder" is checked

I meant to add. I've tried this with the project saved locally and on a network drive.

OK after hours of troubleshooting, I seem to have these defaults working as expected even after closing and reopening AE.

I wish I could explain exactly what to do, but I think the order of operations is critical to get this to work correctly.

What's not clear in the UI/UX is how to bind the "Output To" with an "Output Module"

I think you have to "Make Template" for the Output Module, then immediately after, make a Custom "Output To" setting, name it and check the "Default" box.

This is not really a solution, but I wanted to share in case anyone else lands here...

I'm still not really able to use this feature. I've tried to retrace my steps above and have not had consistent results (clearly I don't understand the actual mechanism happening here).

It's not really a feature request since it technically exists, but I would love this to be developed further (or documented somewhere)

after deleting an output module, it seemed to work with the default Output To. The confusing thing is why/how a particular Output Module was able to have a default file path that is separate to the "default" Output To path. In fact, it was a filepath that was not saved in the Output To module.
