Pasting path direction from flipped path not working

New Here ,
Feb 21, 2023 Feb 21, 2023

I duplicated and flipped a path horizontal to mirror the original. When I copy the path of the flipped path and paste it to the position of my new shape layer, it just follows along the original unflipped path instead of the flipped one. Does anyone know how I can get my shape layer to follow along a path that has been flipped horizontal?

How did you flip the path? If you used the Contents/Shape/Transform Shape/properties, the path vectors are not changed, and you will get the results you are seeing. If you select the Path, double click on the points with the selection tool (v) or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmnd + t and hold down the Ctrl/Cmnd key while dragging to flip the path, you should be able to copy and paste the new path and end up with an identical path, math, or motion path.

Could you provide some screenshots to better illustrate your issue? Specifically, can you explain the steps you've taken so far to flip the path? It's worth noting that adjusting the scale parameter of the main layer won't actually flip the path itself, but rather just the layer.

I made a path with the pen tool then made a shape layer to follow along that path by copying the path and pasting it to the position of the shape layer. I tried transform/flip horizontal but that didn't flip the path. I then put the path layer in 3D and tried orienting it 180 degrees and that also did not flip the path. That's good to know, I am still trying to figure out how to flip the path itself.

Ohhh thank you so much! I spent so much time trying different things that didn't work, it so simple but I never would have figured it out on my own. I really appreciate it, thank you!
