Playhead not pausing when I press Spacebar

I have seen people have similar problems on this forum but mine is the other way around. Whenever I press spacebar to pause, it either just goes on, or replays the pre-rendered part over and over. All the while not pausing until I have hit the spacebar about 5 to 10 times.

Sorry for the poor experience. Could you share your current After Effects version and let us know if you see this issue with a specific project or while working with specific source files?

Please also try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plugins disabled (Edit > Preferences > Startup & Repair > Start in Safe Mode / After Effects > Preferences > Startup & Repair > Start in Safe Mode in macOS). Some plugins might interfere with the Timeline interface.
