please help! Exporting Errors with After Effects!

Community Beginner ,

hey!

im goin to say sorry beforehand for the long post but im asking for yall to please read!

ive been trying to export a project for the past two days and ive been struggling so much so any help is super appreciated.

i dont know if you need any of this info but my edit is 2:03:33 (basically 2 minutes lol) long, its an anime music video so it has effects/transitions, its cropping is 1920x1080, and has a 23.98 frame rate.

I use Adobe After Effects CC 2018

my laptop's specs: (which i know isnt the best suited to run a program like after effects but its all i have)

ASUS vivobook flip convertible 15.6" touchscreen

Intel Core i3-6100U Processor (2.3GHz Clock Speed)

4GB DDR4 memory

128GB SATA3 M.2 Solid State Drive

i also have 11.9 GB available for Adobe products, and 10.4 GB is given to AE and ME.

ive tried exporting it through render queue in avi and quicktime. my original plan was to export it in one of those formats, then send it to media encoder to export in H.264 format so i can get a MP4 file.

when i tried render queue, the first time was avi format and it was able to render all the way up until timestamp 01:15:11 and the rest of the video was just a black screen but weirdly still had audio.

the second time was the same except it was quicktime, stopped at the same timestamp, but was only a video that 1:15 min long.

i assumed it was something wrong in my composition at that point and went in and even deleted an effect (there was only two on the clip that was in the whole 10second range from 1:10-1:20).

this time i just tried exporting from 1:15:00 mark instead since i wanted to see if maybe my computer couldnt handle exporting the entire thing for some reason. it would only export for about 2 seconds, then say failed at 1:15:11 still. (i tried that in avi and quicktime)

out of desperation i decided to try using media encoder once those failed and attempted the formats H.264 and DNX.

when i tried H.264 the first two times it failed. i tried mobile device 1080 preset and High quality 1080p HD. finally i tried Match Source- High Bitrate, i selected Match source and render at maximum depth for basic video settings and changed bitrate settings to VBR, 2 pass with target of 9 and maximum of 30. i also selected maximum render quality.

this surprisingly worked up until the 1:15 mark AGAIN.

it gave me the error:

Error compiling movie

Accelerated Renderer Error

Unable to produce frame.

Around timecode: 00:00:00:01 - 00:00:00:09

Rendering at offset: 0.042 seconds

Component: H.264 of type of Exporter

Selector: 9

Error Code: -1609629695

any attempt after this all had an error code that stated:

Error Compiling movie

Render Error

Renderer returned error.

Writing file type: H264

Around timecode: 00:00:00:01 - 00:00:00:09

Rendering at offset: 0.042 seconds

Component: H.264 of type of exporter

Selector: 9

Error Code: -1609629695

i then tried just high bitrate without changing anything and a whole combition of different things, but they failed 1-3 seconds in. any other settings also failed 1-3 seconds in.

DNX the first time worked up until 22 seconds, and the second time failed at 3 seconds.

this especially makes no sense to me because the beginning of the edit barely has any effects. it uses camera lens blur in 2 spots for about 2 second spans, and a couple of position keyframes for a very slight shake. the actual edit with transitions and effects dont start until about 12-15 seconds in. but i also am assuming its erroring something ahead or another error.

i really dont know much about computers especially things with exporting so im sorry for any stupidity Lol

i wanted to try render queue again and this time watch the info in task manager. it did rise up to 100% disk at certain points but when that 1:15:11 mark came up it was only between 70-80%. the memory stayed in the range of the 70-80% the entire time, and the CPU stayed fairly low at between 5%-20%

i realized i needed to make sure my driver was updated, which it did need an update so i ran it, restarted the computer, and decided to try Render queue again.

this time, my project failed immediately stating some kind of error with the output module. i was exhausted and genuinely spent 8 HOURS at that point trying to get it to work, so i said forget it and went to bed.

when i woke up today i tried again with render queue and it worked up until 01:15:12 now.

my dad, whose really experienced in computers in general but not AE, said it might be a RAM issue and that i dont have enough. but im praying it isnt because then i know theres nothing i can do to fix this...

im at such a complete loss, i worked so so hard on this edit that id be way more than heartbroken if i couldnt export. im seriously desperate and tried to remember the over 10 hours total ive spent attempting to export so im sorry if im missing any details. i really hope someone can help me with this because i dont have anyone in my personal life who can.

thank you so so much for reading.

- Ken

also, i tried exporting using both software and hardware options (changing settings both in my actual AE project and ME, then also just trying changing ME only)

i tried

Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)

Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)

Mercury Playback Engine Software Only

also, i dont know if this makes a difference, but there are NO 3D Layers/transitions in this edit whatsoever.

Hi Ken:

You answered your own question when you stated this about your laptop, "...which I know isn't the best suited to run a program like After Effects, but it's all I have."

You're below the minimum requirements.

With 4GB of RAM, I'm surprised you've gotten this far.

Do you have a friend or family member with something that meets or exceeds the requirements?  You can log into your Adobe ID and install After Effects, render your project, and then log out (optionally uninstalling AE as well, but you can leave it if you think you'll need to render at a later time and your friend or family member does not mind).

I'm not sure which version you're using, but I've posted a link to the requirements for earlier versions just to show that AE 4GB of RAM has always been too little for AE.

Wow, i knew it was kinda bad but i had no idea it was THAT bad..

i could use my dad's computer- that'd work great, but my concern is i have the omino plugin and the pixel sorter plugin on my computer (i used both in the edit), how would i get that on my dad's computer as well so my project file isnt missing anything upon export?

thank you so much for getting back! i feel better knowing there's at least a chance i can still export. i might just start editing on my computer and exporting with my dad's if that's the case.

Yes, as plugins are like fonts, they will need to be installed and activated in order for your Comp to render as expected.

Adobe allows of us to have our Adobe ID logged into two computers at the same time, the idea being you could be working on a laptop and a desktop or a computer at work or one at home.  So, you can keep After Effects installed and remain logged into your Adobe ID; however, not all 3rd party plug-ins allow for that.  You'll have to reach out to the publisher of each one.  You may be fine installing and using it on each machine wiht your Adobe ID, but you might also need to purchase an additional license or uninstall or (if it allows for it) move the license over temporarily.  Many plug-ins have demo mode.  So one option is to leave it in demo mode on your machine while it's licesned on your dad's. Of course, that typically means working with warnings or always having to click "Trial" or having a big red X to look at while you work.

One more option (if there are not too many already) is to try to pre-render your Comps or Layers with 3rd party effects.  That takes a little time and effort and being that you're also tight on drive space may not work so well.  When set up well, it allows you to render the project and ignore the missing effects messages - of course, you can't change anythnig at that point.
