Preview Window Keeps Freezing - HELP!

I've been using After Effects for work and the preview window keeps freezing. The program isn't frozen. I can still move keyframes and change values but that doesn't help if I can't see what I'm doing. When I close After Effects, the program is unresponsive, so I have to force close every time with the task manager.

So I 've been opening, working for a few seconds, freeze, try to close program, end task and repeat to get any work done. Sometimes I'll open a file to begin work and if sit for a minute before clicking anything in the program and the preview window is already frozen before I can begin so I can't see what I'm doing.

I have searched online and can't find anything. I've cleared cache, temp files, purged memory, uninstalled/reinstalled and allocated more RAM for the program in settings with no success.

The project is every simple with a couple of shapes lines and trim paths. I hope this is descriptive enough for someone to help because this is beyond frustrating!

Below are my system specs.

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1185G7 @ 3.00GHz 1.80 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
