Previews taking forever to render

OS version: Windows 10 Home Version 22H

Specs:

Ryzen 5 3600
Rx 580 sapphire
Corsair Vengeance 32gb ddr4

Samsung 980 500gb (the software and my media cache are on this drive)

Ive had this problem for quite some time but its never been this bad.

Randomly while im working AE just decides to stop generating a preview, its just freezes on the last frame i was on, i can still use the software just with a frozen preview. This happens for up to a minute every few seconds. The frame render timer in the bottom left doesnt count this time and neither my GPU or CPU have high usage when this happens so i have no idea what could be causing it. This still happens when editing a single video layer in an empty composition.
If you need any more information i would be more than happy to provide it.

Can you install the latest version of After Effects and see if the issue persists?
