So lately I have a problem with after effects. When I open a old project or make a new one, I can't see anything i have placed or place. Also when I move some of the side panels like the layer panel it glitches. I dont really know what to do and I need this program for school.

Hi there Lara35353674xwon,

Sorry to hear you're having issues. Can you please let us know which specific version of After Effects you're running and on what OS? Also, can you please post some screenshots or screen recordings showing panels glitching? If your machine has a dedicated GPU, have you also tried updating to the latest driver?

Thanks,

David, After Effects Engineering Team

Thanks for posting that screenshot. What graphics card does your laptop have, and are you able to update to the latest driver?

If you go into the Preferences > Display and disable "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage panels," does that change anything?

Also, if you go to File > Project Settings, can you enable "Mercury GPU Acceleration (CUDA)?" It's currently disabled based on the rocket icon at the bottom of your Project panel.

I don't think this should have any effect, but have you tried a project not in OneDrive?

Do you by any chance have the public beta installed? If so, can you check there?

Both the public beta and the release version can live side-by-side without overwriting each other. You can find it in the "Beta" section of the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

Also, are you running the Game-Ready or Studio driver? The Studio driver will be the most ideal for creative applications. Also, sometimes rolling back to a previous driver can fix issues, so while it can take a few minutes to do, it's often worth attempting.

@Kevin-Monahan, have you seen this issue pop up anywhere else lately?

Thanks, @David.Arbor.

The screenshot shows that it's probably something to do with the GPU driver. The first thing to try is a clean installation of the studio driver. @Lara35353674xwon, have you given that a shot yet? I hope we can assist you. Sorry for the problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

Can you try the following steps:

• Close After Effects
• Go to the Device Manager (Run >> devmgmt.msc)
• Select Display Adapter, Right click on the "Intel UHD graphic card".
• Select "Update Driver"
• Select "Browse my Computer"
• Select "Let me Pick from a list of available drivers on my Computer".
• Select "Microsoft Display Adapter".
•  Launch After Effects.

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Nishu

Here is another post with a similar sounding issue. This user was able to update their Intel GPU driver to another (but not the latest) version. Are you able to do the same thing?
