It used to be the case that underscore sorted before alphanumeric characters and other symbols. We have many projects where we have named items in the project panel with a starting underscore character (_) so that those items sort to the top of their folder. However, with the change in sort order of recent AE 23 updates, including AE 23.6, the sorting order appears broken, and these items end up in the middle of their folder, after items that begin with other symbols or a number, but before items that begin with a letter. Can Adobe fix this to restore the old sort order, which would also be consistent with the sort order in the OS?

This was an intentional change to use a more natural sort ordering. We have had discussions about enabling the old sort method as a preference, but the plan moving forward is to use the sort order that's now in place.

please make this change as an option in preference, i have to render 200 scenes by selecting all composition now i have to select them manually
example: my shot composition was PROJECT_SCENE01 (this had to export to video)
then my background naming was PROJECT_SCENE01-01 (this was a psd file)
Now shot composition and bacgkround files are all mixed up in new name sorting

Is any document about new sorting order?
I'm feeling weired about this change as Japanese user.
Some Japanese characters (and also maybe from different languages) wieredly inserted between alphabets.
This is slightly unusable, and not looks "natural" as user who handling multi-type of characters, not only Japanese.
Though it's not fatal issue, I hope the option that turns old sort method on.
