RAM Preview is not working as it should/use to

I'm running the latest version of AE and it is hugely frustrating. Here's an example of what I mean.
I'm working on an animation using Joysticks and Sliders, Duik. It's a fairly heavy project but manageable and I have a very good PC running it. I'm currently lip-syncing and if I move or add a VO (Audio-only) layer the whole thing has to RAM preview over and over and over with every little adjustment. I have made hundreds of videos like this and have never experienced this before. Usually, you are free to make changes to comps within the master comp and only the comp you have altered (visually) would need to re-ram preview (obviously) but the rest of the master comp would keep the ram-previewed comps for playback. What is going on? The amount of extra time I have to wait is unacceptable. Is this a deliberate change or yet another bug? If it's deliberate, would you mind explaining the thinking behind this? nonsense?

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would you be able to provide a project and steps that reproduce the performance issue in the latest 23.6 version of After Effects?

Hi, I can collect and send you the current project I'm working on, no problem. You can just open it and you'll see what I'm facing. This is the first project I've worked on since the most recent update, so couldn't say if it's the standard and I really don't have the time to experiment. Where should I send the project?
