Ram preview slow as heck with basic 3d shape/text

I only started puttting my first shape into the composition with a few second video behind it.

I hit the spacebar and man, the preview is slow to render. I know I can cache before playback but I really am expecting it to just do it live with having the latest and greatest machine.. Am I wrong to think this is possible?

I have the latest Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio fully loaded and the laptop is heating up and the preview is  slow as heck. i was expecting it to fly through with ease..

I tried purging the cache /memory/disk but this is a brand new machine.. oy!

You have wrong expectations. The Cinema 4D renderer associated with the extrusions and layer deformations is purely CPU-based and will rarely ever play realtime. Unless they update it to include the GPU functions from the commercial C4D version and/ or Redshift, this won't change and you have to use old-fashioned RAM previews.

Hi @Mylenium Oh wow, So how do I get it to do gpu based rendering or just make it real-time/faster? Do I have to download a new renderer or something?

Thanks,

The C4D renderer in AE does not include any GPU functions at this point, but I'm sure they'll update it one day to reflect the changes in the big standalone C4D on that front.

Hi @Mylenium
Should I be using another program to do this? I bought a super computer to get fluid production time, perhaps Adobe After Effects isn't the software to use.. Or is there something special I need to do on my end to have faster performance?

Thanks,

Checking to see if anyone has a better solution for faster 3d shapes/text rendering previews.. Is it all processor?

Is my computer not as fast as I thought it would be? It really seems slow for a brand new pc fully loaded so I would appreciate someone who can assist.

Is there another 3d renderer that will make it faster? @Mylenium
