Hi.
In new After Effects 17.5.1
I've accidentally rotated my scene using the new 3D 'rotate around the cursor' tool.
I don't have a camera in my scene.
How do I reset my orientation back to the default zero so that I am looking face on again??

Only the Active view will render. None of the custom views will render and only a custom view would respond by resetting the 3D view.
If you have no layer selected and there is no camera you don't get any tools that will change the rotation or orientation of anything. I'm assuming from the original post that one of the custom views is selected in the timeline and that the new tools were used to re-orient the custom view. This can be helpful in setting up a 3D scene, but I'll say it again, you cannot render a custom view. You can preview it, but you cannot render it.

If any layer is set to 3D you can use the orbital rotate tool and it will rotate the standard view, no layers selected.
Nobody mentioned rendering anything.

Hi Thank you both for your response.
Ro Hackett, you are correct. View/ Reset 3D fixed the issue thank you.
Rick the new version of after effects lets you rotate your scene regardless of having a camera and does it in the active camera view using the orbot around cursor tool. It was super frustrating but now that I have the answer it all makes sense.
Thanks guys.

I didn't realize that the view in 2020 could be fouled up without a camera in the scene. That is a really bad idea. At least if you have a camera in the scene you can't foul up the view without pressing C to select the camera. I missed it because I never create a 3D scene without a camera.

Well you can't foul it up without setting it to 3D first which is essentially turning the view into a static camera which is really what it is anyway no? 😮🤔🤷🏼:male_sign:
