Hello,

I was following one tutorial. There the tutor had her text layer outlined from AI. I feel lazy to go back to AI to do that. So I thought I will create shape layers from the text in AE. Because Shape layers are the same be that from AI or AE! right? That was my understanding!

But no! I don't have a 3d layer icon beside any shape letter! why?

My question-

If shape layers are vector, I mean I can edit path, so they must act according to their native nature in all Adobe soft! right? Why it behaves different in AE?

Why 3d layer is assigned for whole text layer but not individually?

Thank you

The 3D oiptions are applied to the shape layer path, not the shape layer groups you have created. In your case you'd have to extrude each eloement individually. That's why it can make perfect sense to not convert AI artwork and extrude it as a whole or at least sensibly prepare it in AI to facilitate the later extrusion.
